"Opera in 2 acts Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
Booklet by Lorenzo da Ponte, after Giovanni Bertati
Premiere: Prague, Gräflich Nostitzsches Nationaltheater, October 29, 1787
The characteristic of masterpieces is to be inexhaustible in the interpretation of meaning. We imagine that this formula was thought to evoke the thousand spells of Don Giovanni. What to think of this work? How to analyze it while it continually leaves room for great ambiguity? Does Mozart identify with his hero: a man fighting against society and taboos? Expressive force, ardor, violence, threat but also irony and infinite sweetness make up part of the humus of this incredible opera that has a special place in the history of human thought. As Goethe said, Don Giovanni is "a spiritual creation of a single jet and penetrated by the breath of a life". Going beyond the anecdote, Mozart reaches a myth! "
